Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global public health problem. The Nordic countries recognise the serious consequences of the problem and take measures to curb the spread of AMR. The Nordic countries are in the avant-garde of the AMR response development and the One-Health approach is guiding their policies and interventions. The situation with antimicrobial resistance in Russia, and particularly in the Northwest Russia, presents a large knowledge gap to Nordic specialists. Russia started taking steps in this area of public health and the national AMR strategy was adopted in late 2017. This programme of Nordic-Russian Cooperation on AMR Containment is aimed at establishing a platform for exchange of information and expertise on AMR response in such areas as collection of updated and comparable data, public awareness, training of professionals, controlling the spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria.
